Blog Business Is Serious, But Take Time For Fun

Blog Business Is Serious, But Take Time For Fun
Like Tweet Pin it Share Share Email

We are all aware that a blog business is serious stuff. I mean, we are talking about some people earning a full time living from their blogs. Even others becoming independently wealthy from their blog business.

Time For A Fun Blog

I am as serious as the next person when it comes to building a successful blog. Hear me now, I will be quitting my 9-5 one day and focusing full time on my blog business.

Here is a short story for you. I have probably told you this already, but I’m going to do it again…shhh, no talking.

When I first started blogging I was hysterically ignorant. Yes, I said hysterically ignorant. Wouldn’t it be great to rank for that term?! Anyways….I thought I had to be all deep and philosophical. Write big words and sound as if I had a Masters in blog-ology.

I was so wrong. My goal for 2011 was simple enough. Be real. Be me. Write as if you are all in my living room enjoying a Sangria or soda pop. Inject my personality into every post.

My how things have changed since I made that simple adjustment. Your readers want the real you. They want the good, bad and icky of you. So give it to them! So that’s how I decided to run my blog business. Informative and fun.

What Is The Point?

Okay, you have waited long enough. You know I ramble sometimes. I decided that we have all worked very hard in this first few weeks of the year.

So the point is, I wanted to reward you all with some fun. See, we can’t forget about loosening up sometimes and having a good laugh. These are our blogs. We can incorporate so much with in them. From education, to compassion and yes, to fun!

So here’s the deal. I like to peruse YouTube for comical videos. It’s my guilty pleasure. I found this amazingly funny video that I am going to share with you at the end of this post.

The Bottom Line

In your blog business as in life, all work and no play is a bad thing. We have to have fun and relax at times and our blogs are no exception.

If you can invoke some fun and levity in your blog AND teach people…you will be miles ahead of the competition. So, keep it real folks and enjoy the laughter.

A quick summary of the video. A woman was in a store when a robber came in. She was interviewed by a reporter. A talented and witty young man auto tuned her interview…and it’s brilliant. So here is my gift of laughter to you.

Let me know your thoughts on the video and how you invoke the fun in your blog. As always, thank you for sharing.

  • Silly video!

Though I think that first when person is starting blogging he/she needs to work really hard to get results faster. Then they can rest sometimes when results start to come.

  • I have seen many who always say that Blogging is fun and they do for fun, that is a crap actually. If you see blogging as a fun thing then you cannot run long, i am sure of it.

I like the video actually, and the pic as well

  • Hey Lisa,

Interestingly, I just finished reading your blog review on Ana`s blog, hopped over to my blog and was stunned that you left me a comment, thanks!

Wow, I almost didn’t know your blog again. What fine-tuning you’ve done here. That’s what I’m saying. Taking action. keep it up.

  • Wow Lisa, your blog has a new look! Love it!

AND I freaking LOVE the Backin’ Up Song! Does it make me a total nerd that I bought it off iTunes? 🙂

I can also relate to your point about being all philosophical and complicated in the beginning too. I quickly realized that I don’t very much enjoy the blogs that explain stuff in such a complicated/sophisticated way. I like the blogs that are easy to understand and the ones where I really feel a connection with the blogger. I have a big sense of humour, and it’s nice to display that in my blogging sometimes. So, I switched gears and started blogging in more of a fun way.

P.S. I’m also learning how to play “The Bed Intruder Song” on the piano and I’m wildly excited about it 😀

    Great info Lisa, thanks!

  • I always thought I had a pretty good sense of humor, and I hat to admit it, but that one went completely over my head.

Still, I agree with you that it’s good to include a bit of fun in our blog posts as it’s good for the reader and good for the blogger as well.

I do this quite a bit on my blogs and when I do I try to relate it to blogging so that there is some instructional value to it as well. Not always possible but when it is the post turns out to be pretty popular.

      • Nope, my lips did not move at all. If anything I probably had a puzzled look on my face. Not your fault though, people have often said I have a weird sense of humor. My wife is forever looking at me all weird like when I burst out laughing while watching something on TV.

      Hi Justin:

Thanks for visiting my blog! We definitely have to look at this as fun and festive. If people begin to feel as if it is a chore, their blogs will surely suffer.

      Hope to see you back,

  • That video is a riot, Lisa! And yet another reason you should never agree to be interviewed by the press.

I’ve adopted a Monday, Wednesday, Friday posting schedule at my blog, and I’m very serious about that. But sometimes I just want to post something short and pointless, so that’s what weekends are for. No keywords, no SEO, no backlinks, just me talking to myself.

You’re right, though. Too much seriousness leads to boredom for everyone. Have a great weekend, and be sure to have some fun!

LOL! You are exactly right Cindy about the media interviews. I too am working on a Mon Wed Fri schedule. I decided I needed some organization put into place and this is week 2 of that schedule. So far so good. I think it’s a great idea for your weekend updates…just you, no linking, no seo no worries. I love it!

      have a laughter filled weekend!

  • Lisa,

The most valuable thing a person possesses is his spirit of play.

I do much better with my business when I look at it in the spirit of play. The ideas come in by the boat loads and the things that need to be done easily.

The video is a perfect example….taking a “serious” situation and taking it into the spirit of play.

I like using some video, (not too many as I think it might slow down my site), I like that it adds to the post and entertains people, maybe getting them to want to come back and see what we have in store for them at another time.
I probably only have 3-4 videos currently, my last one being an Armed Forces tribute, which I thought was pretty cool and gave me something to write about,(although it was not funny). I need to remind myself to throw these in once in awhile!
It is fun to see what you come up with and this was good one, thank you for the gift today…:)
