How often should you blog?

blogging frequencyThis question has always been difficult to answer: How often should you publish a blog post?

For me a blog post every two or three days is adequate – however, I do post (almost) everyday on several blogs I own.

The Friendly Blogger is updated every 2 or 3 days – sometimes everyday (thanks, Lisa, for posting cool blog posts on regular basis!) My Noobpreneur.com blog is currently updated once or twice a day – all with unique, quality content written by guest authors and our very own business bloggers (thanks guys for publishing stunning blog posts!)

“You are not answering your own question, mate!” you might say… okay – you are right; so, again – how often should you publish a blog post? The answer might lies in the type of blogs you have.

If you run a personal blog, a blog post every 2 or 3 days is recommended by some experienced bloggers. However, if you run a news-style blog that loves to break news and updates to your readers in the speed of light, the more you post, the better (therefore most news-style blogs are multi-authored to keep up with the demand.)

Is there a relation between posting frequency and blog traffic?

The answer is yes. HOWEVER, frequently updated blogs are not necessarily better-trafficked than the less updated ones.

If the seldom-updated blogs have their blog posts rank in top search engine ranking for various keywords, such blogs will get a healthy amount of traffic – better than the often-updated ones.

That being said, in general, the more you post the more you attract readers. For example, if you schedule your blog posts to be published every 12 hours (twice a day,) there are chances you can attract readers from different timezones.

Check out this chart from HubSpot – here is HubSpot blog’s interesting post about growing your blog subscribers

There you go – the more you post, the more “customers” you win.

That being said, frequently updating your blog with crappy blog posts won’t help you to enhance your blog and personal branding; getting free PLR content published on your blog? Ditto. Remember Google panda update? If Big G catch you publishing others’ content legally or illegally you might get your ranking dropped, that will eventually affecting your blog traffic.

So – how about you? How often do you blog? Please share your posting frequency and your reasons behind it by commenting on this blog post.

Cheers!
