Blogging As A Business Is Stupid

Blogging As A Business Is Stupid

make money online, blog business, blog moneyWell, that’s the comment I just heard from one of my friends. Yep…he said, blogging as a business is stupid Lisa. Oh yea? How much money do you make per month in front of your computer, I replied. His answer? Nothing.

Why Blog Businesses Are NOT Stupid

I could give you a bunch of techie research and stats here, but I won’t bore you with all of that. The truth is, if you are a blogger, then you already know these things. And I can give you my opinion and you may or may not agree.

Anyone who can state that blogs as a business model are stupid…has not successfully blogged. Period. No if and or but about it. Blogs can make tons of money or little money. It truly depends on the blog owner.

If you want to make $2000 per month with a blog, then you need to put in $4000 worth of work. And I don’t mean an actual $4000 dollars. Just that amount of work. The real truth is that you can make money blogging with little to no cost to you.

The fact is, when I owned TFB, I was making between $250-$300 per month with limited time and money to invest. Actually, the only money I put out was for the doamin name and the hosting each month.

After six months, I had earned a PR 2, now 3 from Google. After 4 months I sold TFB in the $XXXX range and it was pure profit. I put in as much time as I could….which was not a lot and made nice extra money each month. Money that was steadily increasing each month. The first month I made about $15.

So the idea here, is that you get what you put into it. Too many people think they can whip up a blog and make millions in a week. Doesn’t happen like that folks. You need to put in some effort and implement what you learn along the way.

I have no doubt I could have gotten to the point where I was making $2000 per month or more; if I had the time to invest.

Blogs can make you money on so many levels, that “stupid” is the last thing I would call a blog business. From link sales, advertising, affiliate marketing, product promotion to paid guest bloggers…..money is in the blogs. Even if you have a main product website….you can use a blog to drive free traffic to that site.

Hmmm…..I think my friend needs some serious help building a blog and making some dough to convert. I may just help him along, hold his hand through the process just to prove a point. Of course…..for a fee!! 🙂

How do you make money with your blog?

  • I haven’t made any money from my blog. But I know as I continue to hustle and grow the audience, I know that I’ll be able to. But even with my blog not making money, it has served as a great compliment to my existing business within the title industry. Thanks for the great post.

  • I sort of disagree with it, it all depends on the webmaster and how he handles his business online.

  • Lisa,

I partially disagree. Mostly in a matter of semantics, I think.

The way I see it if ALL you plan on doing is blogging and assuming the money will show up. I agree with your friend.

BUT using blogging as part of a PLAN it can certainly be possible to make money either by adsense on multiple targeted blogs.
    With Targeted advertising.
    Email list building.
Blogs to recommend your products or your services.

There is much more to it than JUST blogging, but if you take those steps to systemize the process it is certainly profitable.

(Like I said; I think we agree, just clarfiying my POV)

  • As stupid as it might sound to some people, blogs are legitimate businesses.

I own many blogs; I buy and sell blogs; in fact, I make 90% of my income from my blogs.

And yes – I make $x,xxx a month online. Blogging rocks!

Yea, Lisa – tell your friend he really needs your help!
