To Blog Or Not To Blog? That Is The Question

That may be the question, but if you want your business to succeed in the digital age the answer should definitely be “Yes”. Although if you’re not sure about blogging, or even what blogging is, starting one can be a little bit daunting.

A blog, short for Weblog, is basically an online diary where you can talk about anything you like. Films, politics, holiday resorts, and even different types of cheese, you name it there is a blog out there discussing it.

The bottom line is that blogs don’t have to be complicated but they do have to be interesting to read.

Why is blogging important?

Blogging is a way of interacting with your existing customers and also helps to attract new potential customers to your website. This is done using a method called Search Engine Optimisation or SEO.

SEO uses relevant keywords to ‘talk’ to search engines and make sure your website is ranked higher on search engine results pages. This is done by using the keywords in a natural, flowing way without it looking like you’ve crammed them in.

Search engines will then reward you for your interesting content by placing you higher in the results when someone searches a keyword that you’ve used correctly in your blog.

Great! How do I get started?

Luckily for blogging beginners there are loads of free and easy to use blogging sites out there so you can dive right in and get your words to the masses. WordPress and Blogger are probably among the most popular and they offer loads of tips, tricks, and tutorials to help you to blog successfully.

What do I talk about?

As we said above, there are blogs for just about anything but if you’re writing a blog for your business then it should be relevant. For example it could discuss your products, industry related news, product reviews, your business news, and anything else you think is related to your business or industry.

Say for instance you own a shop selling cooking equipment. You might use your blog to talk about your latest range of cookware, developments in cooking technology, or simply to share your favourite recipes with your customers.

I’m not sure about this. Can I get someone to do it for me?

If you’re not sure about blogging or you just haven’t got the time to sit in front of your computer and write blogs on a regular basis then it might be worth getting some professional help.

There are loads of great companies out there that offer a copy writing serviceto help your business blog really get off the ground. Whether you’re looking for a daily blog post or you just want to give your readers a monthly update, a copy writing company will be able to boost your SEO rankings and give you interesting, informative content that will really make your business stand out.

Ready! On your marks! Start that blog!
