When you bake cookies you only want to make a few and they will be huge. If you spread the dough too thin you maybe have more cookies, but they are so small they do nothing for you. Did you realize that SEO and cookies were like two peas in a pod? If you spread your SEO too thin it will also do nothing for you. You’ll waste so much energy on each traffic technique and nothing good will come of it.

Instead you need to nail down a few techniques that you think could bring you great success. You will become a master of those techniques and you’ll get more traffic than you ever expected. First you need to decide what ones are right for you and it will be different for every niche. The easiest way is to try what you feel is the best choice because nobody knows your website better than you. Maybe start with one of these and see what results you get.

Start submitting guest posts

Everyone is doing it nowadays, but I suppose that must be a good thing. It just shows you how well it works. Make sure you build a relationship with some bigger blogs and you can ask them for permission to submit a guest post. Don’t waste your time with ones that don’t usually accept posts, because you’ll not likely get much in return for your time.

Use press releases

If you have any content that can be considered news you could write up a press release and test the waters. This is great for some people and the results they get can be impressive. Just remember that submitting a press release to any decent distribution service it’s going to cost some money. If you have none to spend there is other options.

Target specialist forums

I bet you already know a few popular forums in your niche. When you start posting on them you need to realize it’s a long-term thing and you can’t spam like some people do. It takes months to build up a reputation and once you do it’s much easier to get people interested in what you have to say. Don’t put your website link up until you have a few posts under your name.

Write Kindle books

If you keep writing books that are packed with amazing content it will allow you to sell lots of copies which is always a good thing, but all through the book you could have links to your website and the traffic will eventually reach you. Amazon has a huge audience, so get your book popular on there and it’s quite possible you will have enough traffic to make great money.

Start a podcast

Everyone started doing podcasts years ago and they became quite popular, but now they are getting even bigger. The quality has improved and most people can put out shows that are almost as good as a proper radio station. If you think this is possible you should give it a shot. When you rank high in iTunes it can bring great traffic back to your site.

  • Trying to do too many things at a time (with respect to traffic generation) makes it difficult for you to hit critical mass with any of the methods. This makes people conclude wrongly that one method doesn’t work when the problem is simply that they didn’t work on it long enough to see impressive results. For example…

You can’t submit just guest post once every three months and expect your traffic to soar through the roof. You need focused action for a sustained length of time to reap the rewards.

That’s why I agree with this article that you shouldn’t spread yourself thin.
