When you create a website for your company you will do so in order to fulfil a number of roles. For one, your website is going to serve as advertisement for your business and as a way to get more information across about your products services. Then at the same time it will also potentially be a place where people can place orders and so that way help you to reduce your overheads and improve customer service. Perhaps most importantly though your website will act as an ambassador for your business, and like anything that you put out, visitors are going to look at it and judge your organization accordingly. Thus it is very important to ask what it is you want your site to say about you, and to be objective when assessing what people would currently deduce from it as is. Here we will look at how to work out what your site is saying about you behind your back…

Professionalism

The professionalism of your website is one of the first things people will notice and one of the first things people will use to judge your business. If your site looks like it was put together in a spare afternoon by a 13 year old, then people will come to the conclusion that your business is not highly professional and they will be less likely to trust you in other capacities. On the other hand though, if your website is filled with high definition images and well written content then this will create the impression that you’re a professional company with access to the right resources and a good work ethic – and that will inspire confidence in others.

Creativity

While every business should strive to look professional, some will want to aim to appear creative too. For instance if you’re running a company that does interior design or hair dressing, then you should demonstrate that flair for creativity and artistic vision in your site design. Speak to your web designers about creating a site that really pushes the boat out in terms of what it looks like and how it draws the eye and creates an impression.

Personality

Some businesses have a playful sense of fun, and if you can put this across in your website then you will warm certain audiences to you. Whether it just means using some more playful colours, or using humour in your copywriting, think about how you can make your visitors smile and how you can get them behind you. Otherwise if your business is very conscientious, very eco conscious, or very competitive, how are you portraying that through your site?

Reliable/Unreliable

If you sell products or services from your website then your customers need to feel certain in the knowledge that your site isn’t going to crash halfway through a transaction or bill them twice. Having one page that’s down, or letting your site stop working for just a few minutes, can be enough to destroy that trust – so make sure your website is water-tight and flawless if you want to make the right impression with your potential customers.
